We Help Families in Georgia

All parents invest love, time, attention and effort to raise their children, but families with a child who has intellectual disabilities bear an additional burden—they fight to ensure that their child receives basic human rights. This doesn’t include social opportunities, competitive options or the enjoyment of a community. Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia strives to provide families of Special Olympics athletes with a year-round community that offers support, encouragement and acceptance.

Family Action Network

Special Olympics is dedicated to more than giving children with intellectual disabilities a chance to enjoy healthy competition and sports. We strive to create a community that accepts every individual regardless of intellectual ability or disability. To fulfill our mission, we work closely with the families who strive towards this goal every single day.

We believe that no one should ever face the world alone, and we’re here to ensure that no family feels isolated when they’re working to provide their special child with love and support. The Family Action Network (FAN) creates, promotes and supports Special Olympics Georgia families by giving them a way to reach out to each other. The SOGA State chapter of FAN provides year-round activities, social events and support for families of Special Olympics athletes .

Help Grow Our Family So We Can Reach More Families

If there’s one message that Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia and families of our athletes are trying to show, it’s that ability (not disability) matters. We’re working together to create a community of understanding, acceptance and caring because your children deserve the same opportunities and respect as any other human being.

Contact us to join us in showing the world that families can extend beyond blood ties and that we can create accepting communities that help individuals reach goals they may not have thought possible.
