We Help Communities in Georgia

A community is only as strong as the bonds that hold it together. Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia strives to strengthen community bonds by promoting understanding and acceptance among all of its members.

Building Community Acceptance

Our mission is twofold:

  1. Promote understanding and acceptance of individuals with intellectual disabilities within their communities, and by doing so, inspire a desire to contribute to these individuals’ success and well-being.
  1. Provide opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities to experience camaraderie and success through sports and social activities.

By providing support for individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families, neighbors and friends, we help build communities that respect everyone regardless of ability.

How We Build Communities

Just as our mission is twofold, the way Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia seeks to build communities is twofold, too.

  1. For individuals with intellectual disabilities, we offer sports training, sports and social events that give them the confidence to participate in their communities.
  2. For families, friends and others, we offer opportunities to participate in athletes’ success by becoming coaches, volunteers and sponsors.
