How We Support Humanitarianism
Humanitarianism is simply the promotion of human welfare. Special Olympics Georgia-Area 7 promotes the human welfare of a very special population—athletes with intellectual disabilities and their families.
We promote the welfare of individuals with intellectual disabilities by providing them the opportunity to rise to physical, emotional and social challenges through athletic competition. By offering athletic training and competitive events, we offer recognition of their abilities, their potential and their equality.
We promote the welfare of our athletes’ families by providing them support and opportunities to create friendships with other families facing the same challenges.
Because Special Olympics in Georgia, around the country and the world are so well-known, what we do promotes awareness of individuals with intellectual disabilities and what they are truly capable of. And that promotes a society more accepting and protective of those with special needs.
