Our Mission
At Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA Area 7), our mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with other families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
With community support, enthusiasm, and physical fitness, we aim to transform lives for the better. And when you get involved with SOGA Area 7, you’ll see how focusing on what you CAN do can change everything.
Adult Fitness Programs
At the Special Olympics, the finish line is always a rush of triumph and joy. Our adult fitness programs are available for a broad range of team sports and are designed to realize full athletic potential. Our coaches receive the best training to help people of all ages and abilities develop health, wellness, and skills for success.
Events
SOGA Area 7 proudly participates in the statewide Special Olympic Games every year. We also host other
competitive events for athletes and continue to offer volunteer opportunities.
Family Support
In SOGA Area 7, we are all family. Our philosophy is to welcome every single person involved with open arms and accepting enthusiasm. We celebrate joy and triumph together with each and every victory an athlete makes. And we’re always here for each other. Our family network provides resources and support for families living in Baldwin, Bibb, Crawford, Jasper, Jones, Monroe, Putnam, Upson, Twiggs, and Wilkinson counties.
Special Olympics was founded in 1968 with the spirit of openness, compassion, and equal access to feelings of confidence and self-worth. To this day, all Special Olympics events and programs are free to ensure everyone can participate.
