SOGA Area 7 Sports
Tennis is a favorite sport of many athletes, including Special Olympic athletes. In SOGA Area 7, we provide professional training in all aspects of the game so your athlete is ready to compete with confidence.
SOGA Area 7 Tennis Training
At Special Olympics, all athletes are mentored and trained by coaches who specialize in developing skills unique to the game, including:
- Stroke production
- Court craft
- Rules of competition
- Fair play
- Playing singles and doubles
But there is more to Special Olympics tennis than the athletic skills. Athletes are also developing confidence in their abilities and are encouraged to push past their perceived limits. They learn about sportsmanship, the thrill of victory, and the rewards of hard challenges.
Special Olympics Tennis Competitions
Tennis competitions occur in the fall games.
Athletes can progress through tennis competitions by completing qualifying rounds at state-level events. As with all Special Olympics events, athletes are matched against other athletes that share similar skill level so the competition is fair and challenging.
