SOGA Area 7 Sports
Golf is a sport than can be enjoyed by anyone at any age. In Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA Area 7), athletes have access to golf training, equipment, and competitions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Golf Competitions in Georgia
Golf competitions occur in the summer games, when the weather is warm and sunny. It is the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and practice the unique skills that create golf success: precision, planning, and hand-eye coordination.
SOGA Area 7 participates in and hosts a full range of Special Olympics approved golf competitions, including:
- Individual Skills Competition – Athletes develop golf skills to prepare for longer competitions. Events include the short putt, long putt, chip shot, pitch shot, iron shot, and wood shot.
- Alternative Shot Team Play – Athletes play a 9 or 18 hole course with a mentor, coach, or another athlete who is matched based on athletic ability.
- Individual Stroke Play – Athletes compete individually in 9 or 18 hole competitions. Qualifying is required and athletes are allowed to have caddies.
Special Olympics is a unique opportunity because all athletes are given an equal chance to participate, perform, and be recognized for their skills. Additionally, athletes receive complimentary medical checks and preventative care to maintain the best health.
