Special Olympics National Games
Special Olympics helps to show the country (and world) what individuals with intellectual disabilities are capable of—athletic excellence and courageous competition. The USA Games—the national Special Olympics competition—give each state’s top athletes an opportunity to showcase their skills and abilities in the national spotlight.
About the USA Games
Like the Olympic Games, the USA Games are hosted every four years. They take place in cities around the country.
2006 | Ames, Iowa |
2010 | Lincoln, Nebraska |
2014 | Mercer County, New Jersey |
2018 | Seattle, Washington |
The “2018 Special Olympics USA Games will showcase the abilities of athletes with intellectual disabilities, promote the ideals of acceptance and inclusion through sport, and celebrate the transformative power of Special Olympics” (Beth Knox, President and CEO, 2018 Special Olympics USA Games).
Athletes get to compete in some of the finest venues, some of them at prestigious colleges and universities, these cities have to offer.
While Special Olympics Georgia State Games are usually held over one weekend, the USA Games are a full week-long event with athletic competitions and social activities for athletes and their families.
Help Area 7 Athletes Get to USA Games
It takes a lot of dedication and training to get to the USA Games. It also takes a significant financial investment. The communities of Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia* can help our athletes get there by:
- Becoming a coach who drives an athlete to achieve his or her fullest potential
- Volunteering to make the sports events leading up to national competition a success
- Sponsoring regional sports events or an individual athlete who has qualified for higher levels of competition
