Athletic Programs

Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia provides individuals with intellectual disabilities with a wide variety of opportunities to develop physical fitness and excel through competition. Our program offerings reflect the range of activities facilitated and hosted by Special Olympics chapters throughout the country and world.

Our Regional Programs

Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia supports seasonal sports programs—competitions—for several team sports, including:

We offer sports training, and some of our agencies offer specialized training for individuals with profound disabilities.

Individuals with profound disabilities can participate through Special Olympics Motor Activities Training Program (MATP), developed by physical educators, physical therapists and recreation therapists. MATP emphasizes training and participation rather than competition.

Our regional programs are available for athletes in Baldwin, Bibb, Crawford, Jasper, Jones, Monroe, Putnam, Twiggs, Upson and Wilkinson counties.

State and National Program Participation

Area 7 is recognized as an official member of Special Olympics Georgia. That means that the regional competitions we host can qualify athletes to compete at higher levels, including:

All our programs have the support of our local community, and we always welcome new coaches, volunteers and sponsors to help us further our mission.
