Special Olympics Kayaking in Georgia Area 7 Sports

Kayaking is an excellent sport that allows athletes with intellectual disabilities to experience the rush of water sports in a fun, supportive environment.  Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia provides the supportive training and caring environment children with intellectual disabilities need to compete in this sport.

Competitive Kayaking Basics

Every athlete aims to travel through a specific water distance paddling either on his/ her own kayak or in pairs (two-person teams) to achieve the best possible time. Special Olympics kayaking is a flat-water racing event where athletes compete either on their own or as a pair with another athlete.

About Special Olympics Kayaking

Kayaking is one of the newest Special Olympics sports. It requires fundamental abilities in order to be safe and successful.

At Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia, our mission is to ensure that intellectual disabilities do not hold anyone back. Coaches provide training so that athletes learn the skills they need and ensure that all safety protocols are followed. Friendly competitions challenge our athletes to strive toward goals in a supportive environment. Social inclusion is part of our goal for all of our sports, and kayaking allows athletes to enjoy time with others of like mind and spirit.

Help Us Spread Our Mission

Our athletes always need support and recognition, and we can’t build that kind of welcoming community alone. Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia needs you to join our community of coaches, families, volunteers and sponsors to help spread the understanding that intellectual disabilities mean nothing when it comes to the value of a human being.
