Family Support and Special Olympics in Georgia

In Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA Area 7), you are part of our family. Our support network brings together families throughout Georgia to achieve the goals of triumph, encouragement, and acceptance.

Why Family Support is Important

For people with intellectual disabilities, emotional support and encouragement are essential to health and well-being. Whether it is purposeful or not, adults and children with disabilities are unfairly compared to those who do not have disabilities. They see their disability as something “wrong” with them.

At Special Olympics, we focus on what you CAN do, rather than what you can’t. Every event and practice is an opportunity to recognize the strengths of your family member and watch them push themselves beyond their limits. You can celebrate the pride and triumph of personal victory with them and everyone around you.
