Unified Sports to Expand Our Community Partnerships with Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia
Unified Sports bring together Special Olympics athletes with Partners—athletes without intellectual disabilities—to create an environment of inclusion. In Unified Sports, the game is the focus, not the differences between athletes. Players of different backgrounds support and enrich each other’s lives—that’s the purpose of Unified Sports in Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia.
Bringing People Together
Since its introduction in 1987, the Unified Sports program has helped further the Special Olympics mission to create an inclusive, supportive environment for individuals with intellectual disabilities in their communities and schools. By joining Special Olympics athletes and Partners on the same team, we remove barriers and foster an environment of mutual enjoyment and teamwork.
At Area 7-We are working on building more unified sports teams. Unified Sports teams train and compete with unified teams in a few sports:
- Bocce
- Bowling
- Kayaking
- Softball
Commitment to Success
At Area 7 of Special Olympics Georgia, winning isn’t everything. Our priority is to fulfill our mission: breaking down social barriers so that individuals with intellectual disabilities receive the respect and support that every human being deserves. And to do this, we need your help.
