Become a Sports Program Volunteer in Area 7
It takes a team to put on Special Olympics sports events in Area 7. You can volunteer to become one of our dedicated volunteers essential to our athletes’ success.
Types of Sports Program Volunteers
The events hosted by Special Olympics Georgia-Area 7 are intended to develop physical strength and skills as well as social skills and confidence in our athletes. To achieve our mission, we need:
- Coaches
- Training assistants
- Nurses
- Equipment managers
- Venue and event managers
Time commitments for all positions vary—some positions are only needed on event days while others are required for event preparation (i.e. athletic training). Our volunteer coordinator can help you find the volunteer position that suits your talents and available time.
Requirements for Sports Program Volunteers
Most sports program volunteers are considered “Class A,” meaning they have direct contact with athletes. All Class A volunteers must be certified before they may begin, and getting certified involves passing a background check and completing the online Protective Behaviors Training program.
